On Saturday 29th of March as part of The Landmark Hotel’s commitment to the Environment the hotel observed Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a global initiative that began in 2007 in Sydney Australia, when 2.2 million people turned off their lights for one hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney’s energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.
On Saturday 29th last Power of One and ESB Customer Supply asked every person and business in Ireland to do their bit to combat climate change, by making one change – just turn off their non-essential lights for one hour at 8pm on Saturday March 29th.
In response to this initiative we reduced our lighting in our lobby, CJ’s restaurant, Aromas cafe and pre function area, we also placed a letter informing our guests of the initiative in all our bedrooms in the hope that they might also observe the hour.
We replaced all non essential lighting with candles, rather than cause disruption to our guests, they were really intrigued by the initiative and enjoyed the romantic light of the candles.
We were really glad we participated in the event as it got us all thinking on how we can do small things to help combat climate change!
